Destiny Bishop Earns Pair of HBCUAC Weekly Honors After Triple-Double Performance

ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands – University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) women’s basketball standout Destiny Bishop is making an early impression in her first season with the Lady Buccaneers, earning a pair of HBCU Athletic Conference (HBCUAC) weekly honors.

Bishop was named the HBCUAC Newcomer of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week for her performances from Oct. 26 through Nov. 1.

The 5-foot-9 guard delivered one of the season’s early standout individual performances on Oct. 29, recording a 24-point, 13-rebound, 10-steal triple-double to lead UVI to a 72-69 road victory over Florida National University.

Her 10 steals were particularly impressive, highlighting the defensive impact that helped earn her conference recognition. Bishop also provided a significant offensive contribution while controlling the glass, becoming a major factor in the Lady Buccaneers’ three-point victory.

The performance marked a strong early statement for Bishop, who transferred to UVI from Five Towns College in Dix Hills, New York.

Before arriving in the Virgin Islands, Bishop averaged 7.4 points, 8.6 rebounds and 3.4 assists at Five Towns College.

Now, she is bringing that versatility to the Lady Buccaneers, with her latest performance demonstrating her ability to contribute across multiple statistical categories.

Bishop’s double recognition gives UVI another early-season highlight as the Lady Buccaneers continue their 2026-27 campaign.

For Bishop, the honors represent an impressive beginning to her career in the HBCU Athletic Conference.
